Bosses who are seeking to reward members of staff have been advised to give them electrical goods.

According to Angela Williams, human resources director at Sodexo, clocks are no longer the first choice gift when it comes to recognising a person’s long service.

Instead, she noted that many people are now keen to receive electrical items, such as iPads and laptops.

“Times have changed – we have had to move with the times,” Ms Williams commented.

Employers could make the gift more personal by offering these goods alongside useful accessories and related equipment.

These could be tailored to suit the specific individual, perhaps with their name or a distinctive image that reflects their unique tastes and preferences.

Ms Williams added that her business gives employees a choice of what gift they would like to receive.

She said they get a “great sense of pride” in working for a firm that gives them this option.
