The promotional merchandise sector is working to become more eco-friendly, an industry publication has noted.

According to Promotional Merchandise, items given away by companies are often used and then discarded by members of the public. This, it said, has made the sector increasingly aware of the need to ensure these products have a minimal impact on the natural world.

As a result, a wide range of eco-friendly promotional items are available, such as items made from sustainable or recycled materials from pens to mousemats to recycled paper products. Items that serve a dual purpose are handy, for example sweets in a box with the intention the box is used to store paperclips once the sweets have been eaten. Other items that encourage reuse like cotton bags for shopping or sports bottles to encourage recipient to fill with tap water instead of buying water in single use plastic bottles are also popular.

“Using sustainable products offers businesses an easy way to improve their environmental impact and it can help to improve a brand’s image with its customers,” Promotional Merchandise stated.

The publication added that a growing number organisations distribute “green giveaways” in order to demonstrate their commitment to the environment and advertise their brand or product at the same time.
