The proliferation of smartphones in the last few years has seen billions of people all around the world now owning phones that can gain access to the internet wherever they are.

Initially it was only larger companies that had lots of money that spent some of their resources on mobile marketing as a platform to engage with their customers.

However, a new survey conducted by Constant Contact has shown this is no longer the case.

Indeed, the study noted that 66 per cent of small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are using mobile technology as a way of keeping in touch with customers.

Firms can use these interactions to learn more about their customers, which can lead to an offering of promotional giveaways that could in turn glean greater loyalty.

Senior vice president of strategy and corporate development at Constant Contact Joel Hughes commented: “It's encouraging that a majority of small businesses recognise that their customers are relying more than ever on their mobile devices.”
