Environmentally-friendly Loughborough residents are being rewarded with promotional travel mugs as part of an initiative to get more people disposing of electrical waste properly.
A special scratch card scheme is in operation at all waste sites in the region, which hopes to boost the amount of small electrical items that are recycled and reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill, reports the Loughborough Echo.
Residents turning up at waste sites are given the cards when they arrive, with the chance to win a range of promotional items, like printed travel mugs and battery charger packs.
The scheme is being funded by DHL Envirosolutions.
Holly Field, assistant director for environment at Leicestershire County Council, was quoted as saying: “We would like to thank DHL Envirosolutions and hope the initiative will go some way to encourage more people to visit their recycling and household waste sites and recycle old and unwanted small electrical items.”
